In the current tough marketplace, cruise lines are responding with reduced prices, added consumer perks, schedule shift in cruise schedule to capture demand with close to home cruise options, and the removal of small fees and surcharges such as fuel – offering deals customers in comfortable situations can’t refuse. Cruise lines are increasing their bargains offering enticing packages for every itinerary including free upgrades and shipboard credits. As stated by Robin Farley of UBS Warburg, “the middle class customer base is holding back now because they have difficulty visualizing what lives are like long term vs. short term,” which is making the travel industry combine intelligences and opportunity to prove that spending on travel is still important with promotional opportunity in hopes to fill their ships.
